The Pheasant
Nr. Newbury, Berkshire
Overview
The Pheasant, is a 17th Century coaching inn, located on the Hampshire, Berkshire border. History is a little vague but from what we can gather, she began life as a row of cottages before becoming the inn you see today. It is thought that the yew tree which sits just off to the side of the pub, was planted at around the same time that the building was built.
The pubs original name was the Pheasant, before it was changed to the Yew tree in the 1980s, which it was then known as up until the 10th July 2019 when it reverted to what it was historically.
With a beautiful English countryside setting, The Pheasant is a charming pub with rooms, that warmly welcomes dogs and families. Combining traditional hospitality with rustic, contemporary style and located just moments from Highclere Castle, the Pheasant boasts huge wood burning fireplaces, eclectic decor and plenty of nooks and crannies for you to rest your feet after a hard day of exploring the countryside. While well-appointed rooms provide all that you need for a restful stay. There’s even a beautiful, sun-drenched garden and outside bar to enjoy in the summer.
